Living with a Neurodiverse sibling

Lyra Harrison

Today I have been fortunate enough to attend a work shadowing at Genius Within, where instead of following my parent around I am being tasked with writing an extract for their blog.

I was given several options on what I could base the aforementioned blog post around; I decided that I would write about life with a sibling with disabilities. My younger sister, aged eleven, has several learning difficulties; Autism, Epilepsy and ADHD, to name a few.

One of the driving […]

Last month I was fortunate enough to attend a Mental Health First Aid lite course delivered

by Kevin Moore of Future Path. The aim of the course is to empower individuals and

communities to understand the signs and symptoms of mental health issues and how best

to support themselves and those around them. My place there was generously funded by

We are currently working together on Tanya’s PhD proposal, which is to evaluate the effectiveness of psychotherapeutic and cognitive coaching interventions to support neurodiverse people in prison. Research is needed, but let’s try […]

Twittering on about #neurodiversity #inclusion

I’ve come across this amazing network on twitter called ‘AXSChat’, who promote disability inclusion in the workplace.  Each Tuesday they feature an interviewee and then host a twitter chat at 3pm NYC / 8pm London to debate the issues.  Usually reaches a couple of thousand tweets per week.  It is hosted by the Head of Digital Inclusion for ATOS, Neil Milliken, Antonio Santos Social Media Evangelist for ATOS and Debra Ruh CEO of Ruh Global .

On the 13th June 2017 […]

Apprenticeship Levy

Under the SFA funding rules, apprentices that need help to continue or complete their apprenticeship can access what is called the Additional Learner Support Fund. This is a set monthly figure that has doubled since the introduction of the levy to £150 per month, per learner.

To access this learning support a “thorough” assessment has to take place and comprehensive records kept of needs and progress. Genius Within can do all of this, allowing you to be sure of the funding, […]

Announcing….. Blooming Genius!

For many years, I have been asked, “when are you going to work with young people?” and told “We need your work in schools!”

However, let me introduce you to Kit Messenger, teacher of thirty years, ex-Headmistress and the only education creator to whom I have felt 100% confident entrusting my own children.  When Kit announced last year that she no longer felt she could ethically operate in the educational environment given […]
